Do your best and be yourself. It sounds so simple.
Somehow these words relax my body.
Do your best meaning let your essence, your energy flow untethered and be fully present with whatever you are engaged in.
The term “be yourself” feels so natural and easy because there is no effort to be something other than who you are. No resistance to your essence, your truth, your unique way of being allows you to just simply be yourself.
So what makes it so tricky to do so?
There are so many pushes and pulls in life that tempts us to step out of the permission to just be who we truly are.
One of these is competition both with ourselves and with others.
We feel the pressure to do more, strive further, and we are told it’s not good enough, it should look like this not that, and so on.
This typically comes from looking outside of ourselves and comparing what we see. Or have a picture of where we think we should be and judging ourselves for not being there - or being judged by others.
What if we shifted our perspective to be inward-looking out while connected to our internal compass, our intuition, connected to ourselves in a way that we know what is our best vs being told from the external narrative that we should do better.
Validation vs invalidation.
Be yourself takes no effort - except the effort of not getting caught in the web that demands us to be a certain way. To not be ourselves.
A label.
A stuck past version of ourselves or a vision someone else has for us that keeps us in a box and striving to be someone else and telling us we aren’t doing a good job.
Sometimes we try to fit into that box. We think being ourselves would look like the way others think we should be or how others are. But truly we only know what that looks like and how it feels. This requires self awareness and self trust. It requires intuitive awareness and connection to self and the God Of Your Heart, Universe, Source, or whatever term you use.
Again, it’s perceptive.
What if it was that easy to just live your life knowing you are doing your best and that you can trust yourself to know as to when to kick it up a notch or try something new because you feel, know, see it is time vs doing so because of outside pressure and the energy that you should do or be different?
It is making the choice to change something, put more energy or attention into a project or dream, to walk 4 miles instead of 3, to go back to school because it is a calling from within that is true instead of making these changes out of competition. Your experience of these choices will be wildly different depending on what space you make the choice from.
Making the choice to take action from within is empowering, it feels expansive and liberating. Taking action from competition and not from your true self feels contracting, desperate, not in the moment, and stressful.
How freeing to wake in the morning and give yourself permission to just be you.
Let your unique essence vibrate and express through your body in actions, words, movement, and all the things. When you do so, it is a gift to yourself and to others. Your unique essence offers to the world a vibration that would otherwise not be known.
Think of all the inventions, artwork, poetry, conversations that exist because of an individual being brave enough to embody and offer their unique essence to the world. We all have gifts and yours is expressed when being who you truly are.
We are meant to be joyful and abundant in life. I see how giving ourselves permission to be who we are and fully engaged with what we are experiencing in the moment offers deep joy and the abundance of spaciousness and freedom.
It is time to embrace ourselves and experience this life in the moment doing our best, sharing our essence and experiencing who we are.
The myth that we are not enough has got to die. It is not true. It is a lie that holds us back from expressing and experiencing ourselves and each other. It creates disconnect not only in communities but within ourselves.
So know this… You are enough. We are all enough. Just perfectly imperfect doing our best and being ourselves.
The world is waiting for you to be you and your freedom is granted in your choice to simply be you.
